our story

A passion for the natural world and all things enigmatic and dark gave rise to Field Trip. At its foundation, the experience provides fresh houseplants that bring vitality and vibrancy to any space. It incorporates an aesthetic that is dedicated to being unique with a story to tell. Every aspect commits to only the simplest shades of black, white, terracotta, tan, brass and of course, green. Each piece is carefully curated to compliment, rather than overwhelm your space.

We dreamt up a concept that would eventually become Field Trip, late one night over a glass of wine in San Francisco. We loved filling our tiny apartment with plants and antiques we collected on our weekend Bay Area adventures. But we knew finding ceramics that allowed the plant to be the hero was a challenge. Something simple that would compliment and not overpower a mid-century modern or minimalist interior design. Something not overtly feminine or too trendy. Something that didn’t cost an arm-and-a-leg.

Inspired by our love for curiosity shops we visited as kids in Seattle, we described a plant store featuring skulls, bugs, antiques, dried stem bar and naturally, all-black walls. At one point, the style “modern gothic greenhouse" was mentioned, and it fit.

Almost 10 years later, we moved to Calistoga and opened the retail experience of Field Trip. Our experience in marketing and design helped us dial into the mood. We labored over every detail and hand-picked every element to ensure we stayed true to the vision we talked about long ago.

We are forever grateful to our friends, family, and the incredible support we've received from the community. Thank you, again and again.
